Why custom-made
A bar isn't sold in a size range
A window sill guard bar isn't sold as a range of fixed widths, unlike a window sill itself (the ledge beneath the window), which genuinely does come in standard lengths. A security bar sits across the opening and has to match its interior width exactly.
A bar cut too short leaves a gap wide enough to reach an arm through; cut too long, it can't be properly fixed. The exact measurement — taken by you or surveyed on site — directly determines the safety of the installation, not just its appearance.
Frequently asked questions
What we're asked most often
Are there standard widths for a sill guard bar?
No — unlike a window sill (the ledge), the security bar is made to the exact width of each opening. No fixed size range is published by ironwork suppliers.
Do I need to take the measurement myself?
An approximate measurement is enough for a first quote. For fabrication, a precise survey — by you or by the professional contacted — is still needed before the order is placed.
Can the same bar fit several different windows?
No — since each window may have a different width, each bar is made to its own measurement, even on a site with several windows that look identical.
